Gone But Not Forgotten
Rest in Peace Selena Quintanilla-Perez
April 16, 1971 - March 31, 1995
- Selena is a huge inspiration for me. She proved to me and so many others that even if you come from a poor, low-income family, you could still achieve so much.
She was an amazing singer. She was very beautiful. And she was a very loving, giving, and funny person. She cared so much for her fans, and her fans cared so much about her.
Her tragic death was something that should not have happened. She was going bigger than she ever was before. More of her dreams were going to come true. But all that came to a horrible end on March 31, 1995 in Chorpus Christi, Texas, a day that many called Black Friday.
But her memory lives on in the hearts of many. After her death, then-governor of Texas, George W. Bush declared her birthday, April 16, as “Selena Day.” Jennifer Lopez portrayed her in the bio-pic movie Selena. The film also helped bring Selena’s music to a whole new generation.
I hope Selena knows that we’re dreaming of her as she continues to sing with the angels.
Rest in Peace.
